ION worked with Radicles, a wellness startup, to develop the Rayless sleep mask and brand identity. The product – a break-through, adhesive-based, disposable sleep mask–is based on significant research that suggests that a good light-blocking sleep mask might be the best way for individuals with sleep problems to get quality sleep.
To resolve critical anthropometric constraints of different face proportions, ION built dozens of study models to develop the one-size-fits-all contour of the mask. While a middle foam layer lifts the mask off the user’s face and eyes for maximum comfort, a gentle adhesive layer prevents the mask from moving or falling off as they sleep. When the user awakes, removing the mask is easy, with no residue left behind.
The plan is to retail the product online as well as in pharmacy stores, so the package solution had to include instructional graphics as well as consider placement on store shelves.
ION also designed the Radicles and Rayless logos, the packaging, a white paper, the script, storyboard, and the characters and environment for each screen of an animated video that educates users on the benefits of the sleep mask. The iconic Rayless logo was inspired by the smooth curves of the product to form an “R” which is blocking or bouncing off a ray of light against a dark background.
